What to do in case your vehicle is stolen

The most important measure against the theft of a vehicle is prevention. Do not ever leave your vehicle unlocked, especially with the keys in the ignition, even if for a short period of time. Do not entrust your car keys to strangers, even if they are interested in an assignment of the leasing (in this case, you should be present in the vehicle during a test drive). The main presumption for a provision of an insurance indemnification by an insurer in case of a theft is the fact that an obstacle was overcome, i.e. properly locked and secured vehicle according to contractual arrangements. Simple theft or misappropriation of a vehicle is not covered by an accident insurance of a vehicle.

However, in case a theft occurs, proceed as follows:

1. Call the Police immediately and write a protocol on theft of a vehicle, stating all circumstances concerning the theft. In case the Police remove a certificate of the vehicle registration (the so-called small registration papers), have this fact written in the protocol as well. In case your vehicle is stolen abroad, report the theft to the Police of the Czech Republic upon returning home, and present to it the copy of a police protocol from the country, where the theft took place.

2. Report the loss to an insurance company, in which you have your accident insurance arranged, as well as to UniCredit Leasing.

3. In order to adjust your claim, the insurance company will need all keys from the vehicle, including any security elements, and the registration papers from the vehicle. The registration papers will be sent to an insurance company by UniCredit Leasing, in case they were deposit with the company by a client.

4. Upon delivery of the Resolution concerning a postponement of an investigation (issued by the Police of the Czech Republic one month after reporting the theft at the earliest), and provided all required documents were delivered, the insurance company will provide an indemnification.
